There is some positive move in processing Asylum adjustment Cases as it moves Forward to November 1999. Asylum cases are processed exclusively at the Nebraska Service Center.
There is an annual cap of 10,000 immigrant visa numbers on the number of asylees who may adjust status to permanent resident. Because more than 10,000 have filed to adjust status to permanent residence, there is a backlog. NSC periodically releases processing information about these cases and as of August 2003 they are processing cases filed on November 16, 2003.
