The most popular program allowing to randomly give away green cards to lucky winners of citizens of various countries might not be available after the fiscal year 2007.
The US House of Representatives has passed a Bill that seeks to do away with the ‘diversity visa lottery’ system. One of the arguments for getting rid of this visa lottery was that terrorists were using the scheme to enter the US. The legislation, billed as a border protection, anti-terrorism and illegal immigration control act, aims to stopping illegal entrants and requiring employers to verify the legal status of their workers.
The lottery program will be run to select the lucky winners for the Fiscal year 2007. The bill has to pass through the Senate Upper House to come in to effect.
